Montana’s 1st Congressional District

Republican Ryan Zinke won this district by just 3 points in 2022. A key to defeating him this year, and holding the seat over time, is engaging and mobilizing young voters. This huge district is home to the big college towns of Bozeman and Missoula, as well as the Flathead area, where fast-growing places like Kalispell and Whitefish are drawing young families. A large majority of Montanans under 35 live in MT-1. But many of them are either unregistered or inactive voters.

To win in MT-1, People’s House recommends that donors support Forward Montana, which is the largest youth power-building organization in the state and has a long history of working in the district. To turn out young voters in MT-1 this fall, helping both defeat Zinke and re-elect Senator John Tester, Forward Montana plans repeated contact with tens of thousands of young Montanans through canvassing, events, phone, mail, and social media.
