New York’s 19th Congressional District

Biden easily won this district in 2020, but Republican Marcus Molinaro slipped into office in 2022 during a terrible year for Democrats across New York State. Weak turnout was a major factor in his victory, and overall, only around half of eligible residents in NY-19 cast ballots in 2022 — with more than 170,000 registered votes sitting out a race that was decided by 4,134 votes. Democrats can win this district in 2024 and beyond by investing in mobilizing likely Democratic voters and persuading moderates in a district where independents make up nearly a third of the registered electorate.

People’s House recommends that donors support Battleground New York, a new effort that unites leading organizing groups in the state for an unprecedented push to turn out voters across competitive NY districts this fall. The groups behind this push include the Working Families Party, Indivisible, Planned Parenthood Empire State Acts, and 1199 SEIU. Together, these organizations plan to mount a powerful field program that reaches tens of thousands of voters in GOP-held swing districts: NY-4, NY-17, NY-19, and NY-22.
